Visual Ramblings: the chronicles of tomas flint - visual explorer.

Enthusiastic observer of light, love & all things living.

Greetings beautiful blog people. Welcome to the newly renovated visual:ramblings. Here you'll find stories of love, tid-bits of wisdom and visual ramblings detailing the life and times of yours truly. The idea here is not to simply showcase my work, but to establish and maintain an interactive environment where readers and contributors become one in the same - as this space does not belong to me, but to all who breathe life into it through reading, embracing and reacting to its visual randomness. I sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit and look forward to a wonderful journey together.

The Decemberists Live!!!

Hello Wonderful People,

Today started off on the dull side. Overcast, cold...kinda blah. I had gotten some cleaning done yesterday (thanx for your help, kel ;)) and dug up a few old issues of Mojo Magazine which I thumbed through over late morning tea and oatmeal. I came across a writeup on The Decemberists which got me thinking about a show of theirs at The University of Buffalo last year. Long story short, here are some images that I grabbed from that unforgettable night. I had a front row ticket and unlimited time...just wish I had some of the fancy new equipment that I use nowadays ;)

If you're not familiar with The Decemberists, I highly recommend a listen. ...and if they ever come to a city near you...GO...you won't regret it. In fact, Colin Meloy (lead singer/songwriter) has announced a Solo Acoustic Spring Tour. Click here for dates and locations!!! Anyone wanna invite me along...go ahead, try me!

on with the show...

Awakenings

Hello Dear Friends :-)

"With a handful of seeds, I dream of forests." - jesh de rox

This line has been dancing through my head for days now. For with each consideration, I feel a sense of peace. I am smitten by the possibility of what's to come, yet perfectly satisfied with the seeds that lie in my hand. And it is in the planting of these seeds that I have succeeded...not in the direction in which they grow. I have embraced the simple reality that everything that I have ever experienced has taken me to this very moment...and that this moment is absolutely beautiful because of that. I am so grateful for all of you - the wonderful people who have enriched my life through the connection that we share. I am strong because of you, full because of you...complete and completely content. So on this Hallmark Love Day, I am going to break from tradition and ask that you all be my valentine. All of you beautiful people who mean so very much to me. Be mine. And to my special sweetheart Kelli, the connection we share makes every day Valentine's Day...today and always. Heart u mamma!!!

Here are some images from last week's journey in Philadelphia. A special thanks to Jesh de Rox and Anna Kuperburg for being our guides and to the brave souls who accompanied me on the greatest journey of all...the journey of self. As a side note, be sure to check out Jesh's cover photo and feature in the latest Rangefinder Magazine. Stunning imagery, stunning write-up...you are a great inspiration my brother and I could not be happier for you!!!

By striping us of the luxury of pre-conceiving our situation, we were forced to react to the cues that were presented. Here's what came of it...

Soooo....

How cool is this new blog layout?? Although I'd like to, I cannot take full responsibility for it's transformation. A super-huge 'shout it from the hilltops' thank you to my man :e: - Eric Laurits & my main squeeze (and html guru) Kelli Marsh for your contributions. Your generosity and stick-to-it-tiveness made the vision a reality. I am blessed to be surrounded by such enormous talent and love.

That just about wraps up this installment of visual:ramblings.

Smiles, sunshine and big candy hearts to you all,

A city that never sleeps...

Greetings Dear Friends,

Camille & Steve : New York City : 1 Week Before Christmas. 1 great couple + endless urban settings = 1 amazing shoot. Their willingness to explore and experiment is as boundless as the bond that they share. This afternoon was pure magic and here are some of my favorite images from the day. Thank you Camille & Steve, for letting your guard down and inviting me to share in your love.

This first image was created using six different overlays that I gathered in and around Manhattan the day before the E-Shoot. We had one shot at capturing the image as the train was pulling away...
here are some more texture treatments...enjoy!!!

...and some new toning treatments that I've been working on...

We ventured into Times Square just after dusk on the Saturday before Christmas. Can you say "Mob Scene"?? What a thrill (and challenge) it was to shoot amongst the thousands of people that wandered there that night.
damn tourists!!!

These are images that I captured from the rooftop of my brother and sister-in-law's apartment in the Upper East Side. This is one of my favorite places to go and breathe while in the City.

This is the view looking south towards downtown.
and the view looking North towards Harlem and the East River.
If you know me than you know about my love for traveling by rail. Sure, the trains are always late and the travel time is considerably longer, but to me there is nothing that even remotely compares. Here are a couple of snaps from Penn Station. And yes, the train was late!!!
and some shots from twilight along the Mighty Hudson River.

The Amtrak inspired sunset self-portrait.
Thank you all for stopping by. I hope that you enjoyed your stay! Now hit me up with some comments...i'd love to hear from you guys!!!

All the Best,

Happy Happy Joy Joy

Hey Hey!!!

I am moments away from leaving for my last wedding assignment of 2007 - A New Year's Eve celebration for Carrie & Alan in Syracuse, NY. What an incredible year it has been! From my very core, I am thankful for the couples who have touched my soul, the peers that have encouraged and lifted my spirit and the friends & family who have supported me throughout the year. I am so eternally freekin grateful and excited about the prospect of 2008. Onward and upward.

In late October of 2007, my dear friend Kenny Kim invited me to join him for a destination wedding in sunny Paradise Island in the Bahamas. It was a magical experience. Also included on the vendor list for that event was an extremely talented DJ from Chicago by the name of Roberto Monastero. Now up until this point, I had never really thought much about the roll of Wedding DJ. I am usually too busy throughout the day to stop and notice the impact that a DJ can have on a wedding reception. Kinda silly, huh?? Well, working with Roberto opened my eyes and consciousness. Roberto is not just a guy that spins tunes...he lives to spin tunes. He is an artist who's passion and drive is undeniable. ...and his skills, unmatched. A consummate professional and kindred spirit. What a party that reception was!!!

((Flash Forward)) Yesterday I received an email from Roberto that he had sent to his entire contact list announcing the official release of the images from that wedding. I was so touched by the words that he used in his closing paragraph:

"I have done too many wedding receptions with average come-and-go photographers, but these two gentlemen [kenny and tomas] are hands down, the best I have ever worked with."

Thank you for your kind words Roberto and know that the feeling is mutual. I look forward to working with you again soon, my friend.

Here is a link to the slideshow that Kenny Kim put together from that wonderful long weekend. There are quite a few images in there so please be patient as it loads. It is worth the wait, I assure you!!!

In closing this last blog from 2007, I want to once again wish you all nothing but smiles and sunshine in the upcoming year. May your hearts be full of love, your bellies full of grub and your world full of promise.

Cheers,
t
