Visual Ramblings: the chronicles of tomas flint - visual explorer.

Enthusiastic observer of light, love & all things living.

Greetings beautiful blog people. Welcome to the newly renovated visual:ramblings. Here you'll find stories of love, tid-bits of wisdom and visual ramblings detailing the life and times of yours truly. The idea here is not to simply showcase my work, but to establish and maintain an interactive environment where readers and contributors become one in the same - as this space does not belong to me, but to all who breathe life into it through reading, embracing and reacting to its visual randomness. I sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit and look forward to a wonderful journey together.

one big set of hills behind, one big set of hills ahead.

I'm on the run again tomorrow. A week long journey in the Colorado Rockies.

...but not before I pay homage to another great set of hills right here in New York State. Growing up in Utica, NY, the Adirondacks were where we went. Skiing, hiking, bonfire singalongs...you name it. The Adirondack Mountains have played host to some of the best times of my life, and I'm always jazzed to get an opportunity to get back there. Kelly and Jim's Inlet wedding was no disappointment. A laid back weekend with some laid back folk. Really kind and gracious folk. A giant thank you to the super-talented Kelli Marsh who came along and gave 127% of herself. You rock.

...and to Kelly and Jim. What can I possibly say?? You guys are awesome. the awesome-ist, in fact. It was truly an honor to be a part of this:

Many years filled with happiness you two.

In other news...

My good friend Corey McNabb is hosting the first ever "Backstage Pass - Rockstar Wedding Photography" Workshop this upcoming October. I met Corey at Mike Colon's workshop a while back and he said that someday he'd host his own. Well, someday has come. Corey's a fantastic guy and a blast to be around. If we're lucky he may even show us a few of his late nite 'wppi only' dance moves!! That alone is worth the price of admission!!! Seriously though, if you're a photographer who's serious about moving your business to the next level, Corey is willing and able to help you do so.

...oh and speaking of business developments. I've given new classification to my shooting style. The catch is that you have to go to my site to find out more. I'll write about it in length when my fingers aren't so tired. Comments and suggestions are encouraged.

Alright...so I can't fit any of my lightstands in my suitcase. Guess I need to start thinking about a plan B. 7 hours before flight time...I really should be going.

All the Best,
t

The perks of having talented friends...

Hey Bloggers!!!

I'm so excited! Kenny Kim, my good friend from in and around Chicago and quite possibly the hardest working guy in the industry has invited me to come along to an October 20th wedding at the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas! Here's a photo of KK that I snagged from his blog:
...notice the KK t-shirt?? How sweet is that?!?!?

Kenny and I met over a year ago at a pictage seminar in Cleveland. Turns out that he's good friends with another buddy of mine, Mr. David Burke, a killer photographer out of the Pittsburg area. Funny how close these circles run.

Any who...I feel honored for the opportunity to work with Kenny as he is a shining example of what hard work and determination can accomplish. His imagery is outstanding but his person is even more. Cheers, my friend. STAY FIRED UP!!

Elevate 2

So this past week I got an email from my good friend Garrett Nudd. Something to the effect of "Hey tomas...hope you're well...it's been over a month since elevate 2 and I'm still waiting to see the images you captured." "Wow", I thought..."it couldn't have possibly have been a month ago!!" Truth is that it's been over 6 weeks already!!! Incredible how the time gets away from you.

So what is elevate 2 (you may be wondering)?? Elevate 2 was a gathering of some of the industry's most promising up and comers. For three days, we talked shop, photographed beautiful people in beautiful places and got each other fired up about what we do. It was bliss!! Elevate 2 was held in Orlando, Florida and hosted by the incredibly gracious and talented husband and wife team of Garrett and Joy Nudd. Their attention to detail was unmatched...nothing was overlooked. And the supporting cast...a virtual who's who of the biz. A very special thanks to Gene Higa and Ann Hamilton, who came in from San Francisco to spread their infectiously good groove. To Mr. Zack Arias, who is one of the most accessible, down-to-earth guys I have ever met. To Curt Littlecott for opening up his studio to us. I cannot describe how inspired I felt to be in his presence in the environment that he created. If you're ever in the Orlando area, look up Nu Visions Photography and pop into their studio/gallery...you won't be sorry. Thanks to Lori Barberly for taking the time out of her day to hang w us. To Andrew and Rachel from LaCour in Atlanta who came to demo the exciting new Shoot Q that they have so brilliantly been manufacturing over the past few years. Congrats guys...all the best! And to all of the attendants...onward and upward. STAY FIRED UP!!

If you're a photographer...I don't care what you have to do...get to Elevate. Dooooo it. You won't be sorry.

Here are some snaps from Zack Arias' One Light Workshop. The tagline for One-Light..."Better Living Through Lighting". How great is that?!?!? Those of you who know me know that I'm a closet lighting freak. This year has been huge for me as I have begun to incorporate more lighting into my events. Workshops like Zack's have given me the confidence to do so. Thanks again bro...you keep doing what you're doing and you will have your Rolling Stone cover. No doubt.

Thanks for reading guys!!!

be well,

Lori & Erik Part Deux...The Ceremony.

Hey Blog World!!!

Here's the second of three installments from Lori and Erik's Wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico last month. This is the ceremony portion. Short and sweet...what a beautiful experience to re-live!! Thanks again, and a million times over, to all of you guys for making Erich and I feel so welcome and encouraged. Shoot me over an email, fire off a msg, or leave a comment if you want to view the entire event on my proofing page. I'll get right back to you with directions on how to do so. I think that it's worth a view (...but then again, I may be biased!!!).

Cabo, part deux...

Alrighty then...

As for other happenings in the life and times...

Just had a killer wedding in the Adirondack's this past weekend. As my good buddy Mike Lindacher says..."life is just better in the adirondacks". Mountain air, sunsets, tipping back a few cans of Utica Club at The Tap Room in Raquette Lake. Good times. Good times. I'll be writing about it in more detail soon.

After much frustration, I finally sucked it up and invested in new studio equipment. New computers, monitors...you name it. I even got one of those fancy wacom tablet writing thingies. It still feels strange, but I've heard that once you get used to it, you can never go without. Anyway, what was taking me weeks before is taking minutes now. Ok...I'm exagerating. But I do feel like I've entered a new dimension. Warp speed. Sky's the limit...I'm all sorts of fired up!!! I forgot how much I used to like tooling away on computers. Big ups to Pdoe for his hand in all of this...you are the most talented computer geek in the Universe.

Alright y'all...back to work.

Happy 4th everybody!!!
